blu Hair Salons began in November 2004 with a clear vision: to bring professional, welcoming and affordable hairdressing to the local community.
Founded by Dean Daws, a businessman, entrepreneur, skilled hairdresser and barber, Blu was built on hard work, high standards and a genuine passion for people. From the very beginning, the aim was simple — to create a salon where clients could enjoy expert hairdressing, honest advice and a friendly experience they could trust.
Where It All Began
Blu’s journey started in Cotgrave. In the early days, Dean worked tirelessly to grow the salon, balancing barbering, hairdressing and the day-to-day demands of building a business from the ground up.
Every step forward was reinvested into improving the salon environment, developing services and creating a space where clients felt relaxed, looked after and confident in the care they received.
What began as one salon and a small client list soon grew into something much bigger — a loyal community of clients who helped shape blu into the trusted salon name it is today.
Growing With Our Local Communities
As Blu Cotgrave continued to grow, demand increased and the next chapter began.
In 2011, Blu expanded into Bingham, transforming a tired salon into a thriving space for ladies’ and gentlemen’s hairdressing. With the same focus on quality, care and consistency, Blu Bingham quickly became part of the local community.
The journey continued with further growth, new opportunities and new lessons along the way. Like many independent businesses, Blu has faced challenges, but every chapter has strengthened our determination and shaped the way we move forward.
Today, blu is proud to welcome clients across Cotgrave, Bingham and Keyworth, with each salon carrying the same values: expert hairdressing, a friendly welcome and a commitment to helping every client feel their best.

Hairdressing is a craft, and we believe it should always be nurtured. Our stylists continue to learn, grow and refine their skills through ongoing education, from new techniques and colour trends to customer care, consultation and communication.
Our team are proud to be part of the Goldwell education system, with regular visits to academy settings in London and Nottinghamshire, as well as in-salon education from Goldwell educators throughout the year. This ongoing training helps us stay inspired, confident and current, while continuing to deliver the high standards our clients know and trust.
